Welcome Joss!

The third week of April brought us to the end of a two year interregnum, which was a reason for much rejoicing and celebration.  We were delighted to welcome the Reverend Joss Walker and her partner Mim.

On Tuesday the 16th, Joss was licensed as the Priest-in-charge of Fawkham & Hartley and Longfield parishes, by Bishop Simon Burton-Jones, at a service at Hartley Church Centre.  During the service Joss not only met members of our church family but was also introduced to representatives of organisations in the wider community, including schools, uniformed organisations and the Roman Catholic Church.  Some of Joss’s favourite hymns were included in the service.   A choir, consisting of ladies from all three parishes in the RNWK Group, led the singing and piano accompaniment was provided by Jane Noakes.

The following Friday evening a Ploughman’s Supper was held, again at Hartley Church Centre.  This was an opportunity for Joss and Mim to get to know people in a more informal setting.

Sunday the 21st saw Joss’s Installation at Longfield Church.  This service was led by Archdeacon Andy Wooding-Jones.  Again, a combined choir sang, and Jane Noakes provided a gloriously uplifting musical accompaniment, this time on the church organ.

With all the formalities over, it was great to relax over a glass of wine and delicious lunch in the Jubilee Hall, which had been wonderfully decorated for the occasion.
